Named for the many cedar trees that once blanketed the ravine, the "vale" in this area, Cedarvale was almost lost in the late 1960's at the proposed construction of the Spadina Expressway. Residents in many neighbourhoods helped put a stop to the expressway, thus retaining some of the city's most beautiful natural landscape.
A large Jewish community is situated in Cedarvale, having been established around the Holy Blossom Temple and Beth Tzedec Synagogue. Primarily built between 1920 and 1950, the homes in Cedarvale are found in many styles: from modest starter homes and walk-up apartment buildings to large homes on oversized lots backing onto the ravine.
Shopping along Eglinton Avenue West provides residents with some of the most glamorous boutiques in Toronto. The Cedarvale Ravine is part of the Belt Line Railway path and is popular with people who enjoy walking, cycling and even cross country skiing in the winter. Public, Catholic and Private schools are in the area. Bus service connects commuters with subway stations in outlying subdivisions, and the Allen Expressway is just minutes away by car. Close proximity to Bathurst & St. Clair offers shopping and is steps to the subway.
Cedarvale, with a mix of bungalows, large stately homes, multi unit homes and apartments. Built from the 1920’s to the 1950’s along the Cedarvale Ravine which was saved from expropriation with the cancellation of the extension of The Spadina Expressway, officially the W.R. Allen Road. Treasured by the community the Cedarvale Ravine is an expansive green space offering serine walks and the off leash dog park. Close to transportation, shopping, good schools and steps to The Eglinton Way.
